How to Upgrade Motorola Defy to Android Jellybean 4.1.1

It’s a party time for Motorola Defy users because they now update their device to get the Jelly Bean 4.1.1 based Cyanogen Mod 10 in their device. This firmware update is on the process, it’s just the beginning of the Jelly Bean update and the developer is working hard on it. There is no news of official Jelly Bean update for Defy. Hence it’s the best time to update the device with this so that you can enjoy several customs ROM in future.

However, to apply this update the device has to get rooted and installed with recovery image. The things which will work after updating the Jelly Bean 4.1.1 are phone, audio, camera(photo), panorama, FM-radio, sensors, mass storage, mobile data, USB, video rec/play and GPS/AGPS. Note that this unofficial update which involves risk, so Pamandroid will not take the responsibility of damage.

Pre-Requisites

  1. Rooted Motorola Defy and installed with CWM Recovery
  2. Computer with internet connectivity to download files from here
  3. USB cable
  4. The battery power must be of 60% and back up data through cloud sync.
  5. Make sure that you have enabled the USB debugging in the phone

Steps to update Motorola Defy with Jelly Bean 4.1.1 based on CM 10

Step 1: Download the Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware Package in your computer. Do not unzip the file or rename.

Step 2: Download Google Apps Zip package in your computer.

Step 3: Now connect the phone to computer and place the downloaded files in step 1 & 2 in the phone’s SD card.

Step 4: It’s time to detach the phone from computer and switch it off to enter into recovery mode by pressing the Volume Down key and Power Button to ON the Defy.

Step 5: Now select install zip from sd card-> choose zip from sd card-> select Jellybean 4.1.1 Firmware Package and Google Apps Zip package-> select OK. The updation will take 6 minutes to complete.

Step 6: After the updation is completed, in the recovery mode select Go Back -> reboot system now to reboot the phone, if it doesn’t reboot automatically.

Check the updtaion by tapping on Settings-> About Phone-> scroll down to check the firmware changed as Cyanogen mod 10 Jellybean Android 4.1.1.
